Maybe the excuse that “my dog ate my homework” worked in high school, but when it comes to missing a workout, I’m not so sure man’s best friend should be blamed.
Let’s be honest, we all make excuses (albeit, some more legitimate than others). It’s human nature. If we can’t, won’t, or don’t work out, we have to ease our guilt-ridden minds in some way and sometimes that can lead to some very interesting stretches of the imagination.
So, I’m curious. What’s your “go-to” excuse? Don’t worry, you won’t be judged. In fact, I’ll come clean right now with my own choice rationale for missing a workout. I simply tell myself that I’ll do twice as much tomorrow. There, problem solved and the mind-easing effects are pretty much immediate! Granted, I probably have an estimated 300 hours of workout time to make up for all the times I’ve used that doozey and not followed through, but that’s beside the point, I think.
Okay, I’m eagerly awaiting your comments, pen in hand! No, I’m not going to write them all down for future reference in the case of an exercise excuse emergency (even though it may have crossed my mind, for just a second or two). I’m going to write your names down and put them in a hat for a chance to win a $20 gift card to Foot Locker (but can also be used at Champs Sports or Foot Action). Who knows, it might come in handy if Fido ever really does get ahold of your shoes!

Oh, man! Do I really have to come clean with my excuse?? Ok, ok, since you've shared...my big one is (if its after 7:00 PM): "Its too late to work out now. If I do, it'll just wake me up and I won't be able to get to bed at a decent time." And to be even more honest, this is usally followed up with your same excuse of "I'll do twice as much tomorrow."
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity to win. :)
I would work out, but my blood pressure is too high.
ReplyDeleteI can't work out, it's raining...
ReplyDeleteLove this giveaway!
Oh boy... well, since we're being honest, mine typically come in two varieties. 1) If it's morning and I'm trying to fit in a run before work but I'm tired, I'll hit snooze and say "I'll do it when I get home from work". 2) If I'm planning on running when I get home from work, there's always some task or chore (um, or Facebook checking or DVR'd program) that I just have to accomplish first, thereby leading to "It's too late to work out, I'll just do it in the morning". You can see where that logic gets me... yikes! ;)
ReplyDeleteHere goes...I don't even believe it when I hear myself say it...I'm too busy! Too busy doing what? Well, it goes something like this. I really want to exercise but it's late or my favorite show is on or I'll be late for work or I need to work from home tonight or I have phone calls to return or...the list just keeps going on. When nothing else seems to justify taking the evening off I always have my back to blame it on. Laziness? Of course not, I'm BUSY!
ReplyDeleteMy excuses usually involve the kiddos. Once it warms up, that excuse probably won't work anymore since I've got 2 who can ride bikes now, and room for 2 in the jogging stroller. :)
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't have read everybodies reason before I came out with my own, cause the only excuses I can think of are the same ones I've read. Except now I thought of one. " I can't go running I ate beef or junk food yesterday. I'm going to get that poopy feeling half way in to my run."
ReplyDeleteI found your contest through Just Northwest.
ReplyDeleteMy Excuse is:
I never see anyone smiling while working out. The first time a see a jogger smiling, I'll try it.
Thanks for the contest.
My wife is workout fanatic! I don't ever go workout because I don't ever want to be in better shape than her.
ReplyDeleteThe thermometer read 6 degrees this morning ...
ReplyDeletealright... you got me. my excuse it that if i'm feeling even a little bit "off" or under the weather or tired i convince myself that it would be better for me to rest.
ReplyDeleteSurvivor, American Idol, and Lost is On! I just took a shower. I don't want to take a shower. Yummy Mt Dew. My tooth aches.
ReplyDeleteI'm a procrastinator. I'll do it at lunch, ok I'll do it after my errands, ok I'll do it after work, ok I'll do it after I drive home, ok I'll do it after I start dinner, ok I'll do it in the morning, ok I'll do it at lunch...and it just continues. I also use the "I'll work extra hard tomorrow to make up for it." I loved that I'm not the only one who tricks herself with that!
ReplyDeleteI'm never short of excuses, but my favorite one is probably...I washed my hair today and I don't want it to get all sweaty (to the normal person I'm sure that sounds pretty lame and kind of disgusting, but to this mother of 5 little ones it's not everyday that I have nice clean hair). You asked for honesty, Kristen.
ReplyDeleteI'm busy today, but I will definitely go tomorrow ...or maybe the next day....if not then the next day for sure!
ReplyDeleteI can't work out because I'm allergic to exercise! I get all short of breath and break out in a sweat...
ReplyDeleteMy biggest excuse is "I don't have time. I have to work on those AWESOME blogs of mine Just Northwest and Just South of North." :)
ReplyDeleteSo my excuses lately are....."I think I am just gonna sleep in this morning, I will get my run in later sometime today. Then by the time I get to it I end up saying screw it, it's too late". Or, I say "man I just doing feeling like running today, maybe another day". I know that these excuses are attributed to pure and simple laziness. I find that as I get older, I am becoming more and more lazy. Help- I need to unlearn this laziness thing!
ReplyDeleteI like to workout in the mornings before work, but I'm always saying "I'll go tomorrow" (then turn off my alarm), or "It's too cold, my car will have to warm up" or my personal favorite lately "Dang kittens keeping me up all night, I'll go tomorrow, I didn't get enough sleep last night."
ReplyDeleteTheere are 15 stairs up to my apartment; every morning I go down them and every evening I go up them --I work out every day --no excuses!!
ReplyDeleteI have a headache!!
ReplyDeleteI really want to go running, but I don't want to get my new running shoes dirty... How many times can I enter? I've got more excuses than Alaska's got mooses.
ReplyDeleteMom and I were walking - not running - our pups the other day. After a couple of miles she looked at me and said, "I think that's enough, the puppies are getting tired." I said, "No, they love to walk."
ReplyDeleteMom said, "No! The dawgs are tired!"
We headed back to the car.
